Therapy Services Offered

Family & Couples Therapy

Family relationships are some of the most meaningful — and most complicated — connections in our lives. Whether you are navigating conflict with a partner, struggling to connect with your child, working through a major life transition as a family, or trying to heal after something has broken trust, family therapy and couples therapy offer a space to slow down, be heard, and start rebuilding together.

At Shared Strength Counseling, we take a relational and attachment-based approach to family and couples work. That means we are not here to take sides or assign blame — we are here to help every person in the room feel seen and understood, and to help the relationship itself become a source of strength rather than stress.

Our family therapy and couples therapy sessions focus on enhancing communication, resolving conflicts, and fostering understanding among family members. With personalized approaches, we create a supportive environment where every member feels heard and valued.

No situation is too complex or challenging for repair when utilizing the right tools and the appropriate setting. We provide family therapy and relationship counseling for a variety of situations, including:

- Co-parenting and blended families

- Reunification therapy for Child Welfare

- Support for families with adult children

- Helping families navigate challenging behaviors in kids and teens

- Addressing cross-cultural concerns

- Discussing LGBTQIA relationship issues

- Managing combined grief, trauma, and transition within the family unit

- Deepening attachment and connection among family members

In couples therapy, the client is the relationship, not one of the individuals. It is a space for all partners to feel heard — not a space for assigning blame. Topics commonly covered in couples therapy are improving communication, understanding patterns of conflict, rebuilding trust, and strengthening emotional connection. Couples therapy can be helpful whether you are in crisis, navigating a specific challenge, or simply wanting to grow closer and communicate better.

In family therapy, the client is the overall family unit, not one of the individuals. Topics commonly covered in family therapy are learning skills to improve communication,  exploring situations of rupture and repair to deepen connection and attachment among the family, increase awareness and understanding of the individual family members and their unique needs and how to best support one another, and collectively process change, grief and trauma within the family unit.

Insurance does cover couples and family therapy and goes through one of the individuals for insurance purposes. There will be a diagnosis and treatment plan developed in order to meet the medical necessity requirements for insurance. This doesn't mean that whatever person is using their insurance is the patient, the patient is the relationship itself.

Yes! I am comfortable working in high conflict situations and can assist with developing parenting time plans in a collaborative and respectful manner.

No. Many couples attend therapy for a variety of reasons, it is not just because they want to end the relationship. This does happen, and therapy can help in navigating that process also. My role as the therapist is to support the couple in their wishes, and if that is to stay together, we work to better the relationship and support that goal.
